Hello. This is Dr. Malik Imran. and today I am going to tell you 6 simple steps to keep your skin smooth and supple During winter. Now that winter is here Now that winter is here we need to know how to take good care of our skin Dry skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema , ichthyosis, tend to worsen during winter So, we have to know how to take good care of our skin so we can avoid any kind of dryness flaking and itching due to these conditions
So, I am going to list out six simple steps by which you can keep your skin smooth and supple during winter
I know this sounds difficult but please try to avoid taking bath with very hot water during winter what happens with hot water is that it tends to strip the skin off its natural oil. It tends to dry out your skin even more which can cause more flaking and more itching so refrain from using very hot water for bathing If you take bath with bucket water then you can add 5-6 table spoons of oil either coconut oil or olive oil into the bucket of water and then bathe with that this will help in forming a coating on your skin and reduce the dryness. If you take shower and you cannot refrain from using very hot water then make sure your showers last less than 2 mins. you have to take a quick shower do not stand under the shower for a long time in winter. I know it can be relaxing after a long day of work but that is something you should avoid during winter time actually if you have dry skin you need not use soap on a daily basis. you can use soap only in your armpit area and your genital area and your feet. that is it. You don't have to use soap on your arms, on your legs, abdomen you can use use only once or twice in a week that should be sufficient if the surface is dry nothing is going to stick to it. So even if you just take a water bath, it is going to get rid of all the dirt on the surface of the skin it is when the skin is oily that dirt tends to stick to it. So if you have very dry skin there is no requirement for you to use soap on a daily basis. you can maybe use soap once of twice a week. and even if you do have oily skin, make sure you use a mild soap or a glycerine based soap to take a bath in winter.
Do not be very harsh while using your towel. Do to vigorously rub the towel on your skin that is only going to make your skin dry and irritate the skin just be very gentle with the towel. You just need to dab the excess water off. you don't have to really rub it off or tug into your skin in order to dry it after bath So make sure you are very gentle with your towel
after bath apply a moisturizer right after taking a bath when the skin is still moist this is the best time to apply a moisturizer it will then seal the water layer on the skin and keep the skin hydrated for a long time rather than applying moisturizer after your skin dries out, it is always better it is always better to use it when still moist. keep a bottle of moisturizer in the bathroom and as soon as you finish taking a bath when your skin is still wet apply a liberal amount of moisturizer on your entire body. this is the best way to moisturize. once the skin is completely dry, the moisturizer that you put on the surface of skin will not penetrate very deep. If you apply it when it is still moist.
tends to seal the moisture and keep the moisturize intact and reduce the trans epidermal water loss. So, remember, to always moisturize your skin when it is still moist. also remember to moisturize your skin twice a day. In winter, we tend to sleep with heater on this will really dry out your skin. so after taking a bath in the morning, you should moisturizer your whole body also before going off to sleep you should moisturize your arms and legs and face and neck this is very important if you want to prevent drying of skin you want to layer up during winter you want to stay warm but
remember that you must wear a layer of cotton clothing under your woolen clothes otherwise it is just going to irritate your skin and make your skin more itchy and dry and flaky especially if you have atopic dermatitis or any type of eczema or suffer from psoriasis you have to make sure that you have a non irritating layer of clothing under your woolen clothes. even if you wear socks you have to make sure that the lining of the socks is made of pure cotton. so remember to wear a layer of cotton underneath your woolen clothes if you ant to prevent your skin from getting irritated.
So remember , that you have to use a sunscreen regularly even during winter. People tend to feel that because it is cloudy outside because it is not very sunny in winter, that you can do without a sunscreen. absolutely not clouds do not block the UV radiation and you have to apply sunscreen on a regular basis even during winter. so if you are using a gel sunscreen or a lotion formulation of sunscreen then you might want to shift to a cream formulation of sunscreen during winter. cream formulation of sunscreen tends to be more hydrating tends to soothe dry skin. that you can follow during winter to keep your skin smooth.
